Chewton General Cemetery is an historically significant cemetery situated on 25 acres of bushland in the central goldfields region of Victoria, Australia. The cemetery has not had a visual identity in its 165 year history, and the governing Trust decided that this would be helpful to support engagement with the local community.
Given the historical significance of the cemetery and also its inception around the time of the Victorian gold rush, it was felt that these should feature in the solution. A symbol was created, based on the small, red brick sexton’s office which dates back to the late 1800s. It is depicted in yellow to make reference to the region’s gold-mining heritage.
